Temple Emmanuel Becomes Cool Congregation
Temple Emanuel in Tempe has become a “cool congregation”. They are an active member in AZIPL, the state affiliate for Arizona of the national Interfaith Power & Light campaign. In November 2010, a core group of Emanuel members attended an AZIPL workshop about a new program, Cool Congregations, that teaches how to calculate carbon footprints and learn about practical ways to reduce energy usage. “It’s a really comprehensive way of getting congregants to look at their own carbon footprint and save money at the same time,” said Judy Stock, Emanuel’s vice president of social justice.
